INTERNATIONAL CALL UP
Local Athletes, Nigel O’Gorman and Sean Carey, both students at Scoil Ruain, Killenaule and members of Slieveardagh athletic club, will be competing for Ireland at the schools international in Cardiff this weekend. Nigel, who is gaining international recognition for the third time, will be competing in the 100 meters hurdles as the current Irish schools champion. Sean who will be competing for Ireland for the first time, is doubly involved, doing both the long jump and triple jump. He is current Tailteann Games long jump champion. Both athletes are wished the best of luck, by both their school and club.

SENIOR CITIZENS OUTING
The Gortnahoe senior citizens outing will be held on Tueday, August 5th to Bunratty folk park. If you wish to travel please book your place as soon as possible with Ann Stokes in Gortnahoe post office. The cost is €20.00.

A.G.M
Gortnahoe-Glengoole gun club will hold their A.G.M. this Friday, 18th July, in Prouts, at 9 p.m. All members and intending members please attend.

WELL DONE
John Joe Lawlor (Johnstown), Martin Campion, Bridget Delaney and Mathew Pollard raised over €3,000 for the Special Olympics through a sponsored slim. They wish to thank all who supported them..

Gortnahoe: Tuesday and Thursday at 9.30. Glengoole: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9.30.

KNOCK PILGRIMAGE
The annual Cashel and Emly diocesan pilgrimage to Knock will be held on Sunday, August 3rd. If you wish to travel please book your place with Peg Lennon or Bridie O’Shea.

SLIEVEARDAGH GOLFING SOCIETY
The Society holds its next outing on Sunday, 20th July, in Tipperary Golf Club. Tee off time 11.15 – 12.15. Green fee €25. €50 deposit for the end of year outing at St. Helen Bay required.

GLENGOOLE WEDDING OF THE YEAR
The village has turned romantic matchmaker and arranged a wedding to raise cash for the local community field. Folks in Glengoole have arranged for two villagers to be married – whether they like it or not – on July 26th , at 8pm. They will charge wedding guests €10 each to witness the tying of the knot on stage in the village hall. A “priest” (Pat Brophy) will perform the hilarious ceremony. The Bestman is Patrick Dunne and Katriona Healy is the Bridesmaid.
The couple who will abandon themselves to love and marriage for the local community development group’s new sportsdield are Gillie Goolie (alias Aidan Langton) and Annie Glenn (alias Aoife Bergin). The mock wedding has been scripted by local playwright, Michael Langton of Clan Cuana Theatre Company, who will also produce the wedding. The reception will be held in Kavanagh’s Pub and local band Shindig will play romantic music for this happy couple and guests . Guests will include The Brown Bull of Gooley and a giant mystery mouse who will put in an appearance in the hall.

SCOIL RUAIN ATHLETES FOR CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL

Sean Carey (on the left) and Nigal O’Gorman, of Scoil Ruain, Killenaule, pictured at the recent Tailteann Games in Tullamore Both have been selected on the Irish team for the annual athletics match with England, Scotland & Wales, in Cardiff, on Saturday the 19th of July.
Nigal will be competing in the 100 meters Hurdles where he is the current Irish schools champion. Sean will be doubly involved, competing in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, being the Tailteann Games Long Jump title holder for 2003. Both athletes are members of the local athletic club Slieveardagh.

SILVER FOR KARI
Heartiest congratulations to Karina Houlihan, Glengoole, who came second in the 100 metres backstroke swimming event in the Special Olympics World Summer Games. This is an outstanding achievement and everyone is very proud of her bringing home the silver. These are some photographs taken at Kari's homecoming from the Special Olympics.

COLLECTION
The July Collection for the archbishop and priests of the diocese will be taken up next weekend. We ask you to please contribute what you are requested. Envelopes were distributed earlier this year. We ask the usual collectors to kindly attend.

DRAW
The July Draw for the Cathedral and parish funds take place at Dundrum House Hotel on Wednesday next 2nd July at 8.30. We ask all who pay by the month to ensure you contact your promoter this weekend, if you have not done so already.

PARISH CELEBRATES MINOR SUCCESS
Congratulations to our three hurlers Michael Heffernan, Shane Long and Niall Teehan on playing a major role in Tipperary’s great win in the Munster Minor Hurling Championship Final in Thurles last Sunday. This is a great honour for the three players involved. They are wished the very best in their participation in the All Ireland Semi Final.

GRANGE DEVELOPMENT GROUP
Will hold a forest walk on this Sunday July 6th. Commencing in Grange village at 1.30 p.m. also a nature quiz for children and adults.

PIONEERS
A special evening for the enrolment of Pioneers and the honouring of silver and golden jubilarians will be held on Thursday, 3rd July in Ballysloe School at 8.30. It will include refreshments and a Table Quiz. Silver Jubiliarian pins cost €23 and Golden Jubiliarian pins cost €25. Please order them from Fr. O’Rourke immediately.

OUTING
The annual outing for Glengoole Senior Citizens will be on Wednesday, 2nd July, to Limerick, Adare and the show at Brú Ború in Cashel. Be sure to contact Mary Harding or any member of the committee. Bus leaves after 9.30 Mass in Glengoole.

BEREAVEMENT
The death occurred of Mrs. Mary Maher, Gortnahoe and formerly of Glengoole South. Removal took place from her residence on Friday 27th June to the Church of The Sacred Heart, Gortnahoe. Requiem Mass was on Saturday followed by burial in Glengoole cemetery. Mary is deeply regretted by her sons, Paddy, Michael and Jimmy, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, friends and neighbours. Peace to her gentle soul.

Following their mid final win at minor C level Gortnahoe-Glengoole deservedly captured the mid minor 'A' football title after a second half blitz of 11 unanswered points at the expense of Loughmore-Castellany at Holycross on Friday evening last gaining their second minor title at football ever within a month. Gortnahoe junior youth club are planning a trip to Dublin Zoo on 15th July. Price €16. Names and deposit of €5 must be given by Friday 27th June. Remaining money to be paid by Friday 11th July.
